Death

I will give you some news. I believe that for many it will be impactful. You are going to die. Moreover, there is no way to know exactly when it will be. Although there is a prediction that it is in old age, death can occur before and at any time. In fact, we can even say that death is the only certainty we have in life. Our existence on this planet has an inexorable limit and nothing can change that. We would like to extend our life here indefinitely. We would like the lives of our loved ones to be eternal, that we never need to be separated from them, either by our death or by their death. However, it is not so. It just is not like that. Before that we only have one way, which is to accept our finitude and the finitude of our loved ones. We cannot choose not to die or what cause we are going to die, even though we can take care of our health and our quality of life.

Interestingly, it seems that many people are waking up to death and the vulnerability of life with the epidemic. Frightened and panicked, they run from the old woman in black, trying in vain to hide from her. A primary mode of operation is activated in such a way that rationality is affected in all its functions. They behave as if that old woman is on the prowl, ready to capture them and take them out of life. They hide at home. Some do not even arrive at the window, as the old woman can see them. Others venture out into the streets quickly, trying to go unnoticed or not be identified behind the masks. They give up everything that positively feeds their body and spirit - work, contact with others and with nature, physical activity and pleasure, and die in life trying to escape death.

Strange as it may seem at first, in this group are many health professionals, including doctors, as if they were only now realizing the vulnerability of their lives. In a way, this is understandable, since they were trained to be the 'lords of life and death' of others, ignoring their finitude.

There are also people who use death, or rather, the fear of others in front of death, as a weapon in their ideological activism, seeking to blame, disqualify and denigrate those who do not share the same ideology. They are people, who receive full and certain salary at the end of each month, live on income or at the expenses of others. They travel to resorts, promote parties at home, and can enjoy private beach or pool. What does the old woman in black think about them?

The old woman is not our enemy. She simply forms part of our existence and passes here and there to remind us to enjoy life. It is what makes the colors of life even more vivid, the essentials sharper and clearer, the experiences deeper and the consciousness wider. Thank you, madam, for unveiling life for us.
